IOA, ECM, BPM, ERM

Seen an interesting course ware sharing on these terms:

IOA : Information Organisation and Access
- Deals with Information categorisation, Content Modelling, Access control, Search
ECM : Enterprise Content Management
- it has to include how similar project, similar content and similar experts can contribute or even recommend new knowledge to the existing community
BPM : Business Process Management
- understanding the content related business processes will assist in implementation of ECM
ERM : Enterprise Records Management
- deals with compliance and records keeping

The following are 3 pointers surrounding the above 4:
Discovery
Efficiency
Compliance

Comparing LC ES2 and Sharepoint MOSS 2007

The following shows my comparison of the above two solutions:

Both have:
Digital Rights management which comes separate and prevents users from copying, forwarding, printing. There is a offline control on the number of days that a document is valid.

Folder and document access control

Ability to tag contents

Version control (quite simple for LC ES2)

Can expose folders as network drives for drag drop from Windows Explorer

Workflow engine

Currently LC ES2 do not have:
-There is no ink control in Adobe forms thus unable to edraw within the forms.
-Recycle bin concept
-drag and drop direct to the web interface (done via Launch pad)

LC ES2 user interface is basic and not so full function as Sharepoint

LC ES2 allows discussion threads on a particular document, is on Java and runs on Web application such as Websphere, Weblogic, Jboss.

LC ES2 with Adobe allows for PDF management, ability to render into PDF.

It has Records Management Template which will provide the user ability to set retention schedules

Enterprise Solution (ES2) livecycle by Adobe

I attended the above and found it slightly friendlier and ease of use when creating workflows. It has the capability to extend the pdf to allow users with the reader to digitally sign their contents. i have a question for them as how do i save the signed copy once the users fills in the contents. There were some bugs found when using the Workbench based on eclipse development. More to come when i attend the second day.

Personal Ideas

As part of Personal KM, I like to document my ideas for a better world:
1) develop a sound and polution proof netting or material that can contain the sound and other types of polution within the construction sites

2) develop a front car sensor so as to prevent front end collision with the front vehicle

3) convert the car exhaust gases to water or oxygen

4) develop a fish pau instead of using pork or chicken as the filling (Pau is a hokkien term for chinese steam buns)
